Sustainability is at the core of Mont Gele Gear®’s identity and we’re constantly looking at how to minimise our impact on the environment. Our products are manufactured from materials which are produced to the highest ethical standards in Austria, China, Germany, Japan, Poland, Portugal, Taiwan and Turkey, and many of these materials already come from sustainable sources. We’ll continue to work towards our goal of manufacturing our products from 100% sustainable sources, even if right now this is unfortunately not yet possible, based on currently available materials and processes.
We only work with factories close to home in Europe (currently in the Czech Republic, Portugal, Slovakia and Turkey), to minimise the distances that our products need to travel to our distribution hub, thereby reducing our carbon footprint. This hub is also located centrally in Europe in the Czech Republic, which serves to minimise the onward shipping distances to our customers.
Our packaging is all FSC certified (or equivalent) sustainable cardboard and paper, and the ink printed on our packaging is produced using environmentally friendly processes. Where possible, we will always avoid the use of plastics.
And finally, we promise that you can buy from us safe in the knowledge that in doing so, you yourself will have no impact on the environment, because we’re working with Forestmatic to actively plant new trees on a monthly basis in order to offset our carbon footprint. This exciting partnership ensures that our operations as a company, and every purchase that you make, are always 100% carbon neutral.
Uniquely for a ski gear brand, we’re committed to making Mont Gele Gear® fully transparent:
Supply Chain - Towards the bottom of every product page, you’ll find a description of the provenance of our materials and the location of our manufacturing partners, for that particular season. All our products are manufactured in Europe, and we take every precaution to ensure that our suppliers and manufacturers adhere to the highest ethical standards. We’d also like to reassure you that we’re in frequent contact with these valued partners and that we regularly visit their premises.
Production Costs & Profit - In the drop-down menu next to every product, you’ll find a breakdown of all our costs of designing, manufacturing, distributing and marketing every product that we have available for sale, and even the amount of profit that we make on each product. We’re keen to share with you the various costs involved in bringing our products to market because, by doing so, we feel that this is the best way of demonstrating not only how the quality of our products is commensurate with their cost price, but also the time and effort that goes into designing and marketing our products.
Carbon Footprint - In the same drop-down menu next to every product, we’ve partnered with Product DNA to provide the exact carbon footprint of everything that we sell. While these amounts may seem small on a per product basis, all these small carbon footprints add up to a much larger total footprint, and we’re dedicated to ensuring that all Mont Gele Gear® business operations are always 100% carbon neutral. Therefore, in partnership with Forestmatic, at the end of every year we will also display the monetary total of our carbon offset contribution for the previous 12 months, so as to guarantee complete transparency.
GIVE BACK INITIATIVE
As part of our commitment to sustainability and helping others, we’ve established a give back initiative, Off Piste . On Course.
It works like this: When you’ve had enough wear out of your old gear, simply visit this page: OPOC and follow the instructions.
We’ll then send your old gear on to a charity operating in cold, high-altitude climates, such as the Himalayas or the Andes, where people less fortunate than ourselves need warm clothing every day to live and work.
What’s more, we’ll even tell you where your old gear has been sent to when it’s on its way!
We’d love you to make the most of our give back initiative, so please spread the word, give your old gear a new lease of life, and help another human in the process.
Please note that right now, Off Piste . On Course is available in the EU ONLY.
